Community Information Session

Defence is holding a second community information session about the divestment of Training Ship Argonaut. This is an opportunity for the community to speak with Australian Government representatives and receive an update about the divestment process, transition planning and next steps.

This session will also provide information on the divestment of DSTG Scottsdale, Stony Head Military Training Area, Youngtown Depot, and Buckland Military Training Area.

This site serves as a Navy Cadet training facility.

Relocation

Cadets will remain in the region and relocate to a new lease at a community venue or school. Defence will engage with potential venues to facilitate this.

Community engagement

Defence held information sessions in Tasmania in April 2026 to engage with the community on the Defence Audit and divestment of sites. Community members shared valuable local insights and feedback with Defence. This feedback will help inform transition planning and next steps.
