Community Information Session

Defence is holding a second community information session about the divestment. This is a combined session for Hampstead Barracks, Warradale Barracks and Edinburgh Parks. This is an opportunity for the community to receive an update and speak with Australian Government representatives about the divestment process, transition planning and next steps.

This site is used predominantly for Reserves and Cadet training and is approximately 6km from Adelaide central business district.

This site serves as office space, live-in accommodation and an Army Reserves and Cadet training facility.

The Defence Estate Audit recommendations will enhance Defence work environments, ensuring our estate is a key point of attraction and is fit-for-purpose for both current and future members of the workforce. These improvements will strengthen the overall appeal of working for Defence.

Relocation

Hampstead Barracks personnel will relocate to Warradale Barracks, 18km away; however an interim relocation may be required.

Cadets will remain in the region and relocate to the nearest Cadets locations in Port Adelaide, 10km away, Golden Grove, 14km away, or a new lease at a community venue or school. Defence will engage with potential venues to facilitate this.

Previous engagement

Defence held an information session on 21 May 2026 to engage with the community on the Defence Audit and divestment of Hampstead Barracks. Community members shared valuable local insights and feedback with Defence. This feedback will help inform transition planning and next steps.
