Defence held an information session on 21 May 2026 to engage with the community on the Defence Audit and divestment of Edinburgh Parks. Community members shared valuable local insights and feedback with Defence. This feedback will help inform transition planning and next steps.

Functions

Edinburgh Parks is a legacy land holding from the sale of 650 hectares of Defence land at Edinburgh that was declared surplus to requirements in the mid-1990s, following the consolidation and modernisation of the laboratories at Defence Science and Technology Edinburgh.

This site predominantly provides office space.

People are and will remain Defence's most important capability. The Defence Estate Audit recommendations will enhance Defence work environments, ensuring our estate is a key point of attraction and is fit-for-purpose for both current and future members of the workforce. These improvements will strengthen the overall appeal of working for Defence.

Relocation

Edinburgh Parks personnel with a direct link to capability will relocate to existing facilities at Edinburgh Defence Precinct, 1km away.

Personnel requiring office space will relocate to Warradale Barracks, 41km away, alongside Hampstead Barracks personnel.

Divestment timelines

Detailed relocation planning is currently underway to support a move in 2026.
