About the base
The Singleton Military Area, located in the Hunter Valley, approximately 130 km north of Sydney, encompasses Lone Pine Barracks and the Singleton Training Area.
Lone Pine Barracks, situated 8 km south of Singleton, is a key Army training facility supporting a range of Defence units. It is also the location where all infantry soldiers undertake their initial employment training.
The Singleton Training Area covers 14,000 hectares and serves as one of Australia’s major live-fire and tactical training ranges. It is bordered by the Brokenback Range, Hunter Valley vineyards, and the Mount Thorley mine.
Together, these facilities form a vital component of the Army’s training infrastructure, ensuring operational readiness and capability development for the Australian Defence Force and Reserve units.
