In 2019, Defence proposed removal of 19 structures at RAAF Base Point Cook as the structures are beyond repair and pose safety risks to Defence personnel. The proposed removal was referred to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
On 21 July 2025, Defence withdrew its proposed EPBC action. Defence continues to protect and manage heritage obligations and values at RAAF Base Point Cook while managing work health and safety risks.
The RAAF Museum remains open to the public, and continues to provide for the restoration of heritage values and display of historic aircraft.
