Sarah Millmore - Lithgow

Lithgow girl Private Sarah Millmore wanted to discover the wider world when she joined the Australian Army as a Movements Operator in 2014.

Now she is on her first operational deployment, serving in the Middle East region on Operation Accordion.

Operation Accordion is the name given to the command and logistical support function that directs and supports the various Australian Defence Force missions across Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf region and naval operations in the northern Indian Ocean.

There are about 1700 ADF personnel deployed to the Middle East, which means there is plenty of work for the military movements specialists such as Sarah.

A highlight of the 21-year-old's deployment was commemorating Anzac Day in the Middle East.

"It's a region rich with Australian military history," Sarah said.

"It's a memory I'll keep forever," she said.

Private Millmore is a member of a team responsible for the movements of all of the Australian personnel and cargo coming into and out of the region.

She admits she would not be doing any of it without the support of her family.

"We're a very close family," Sarah said.

"Cheryl, my mum was really positive about me joining the Army; she's always encouraged me to do whatever I want to do.

"My sister is a lot like mum, she's pretty positive about it all, as long as I'm happy.

"Dad wasn't too keen on me being deployed, but he's proud that I'm over here doing my job."
