Mr Geoffrey (Geoff) Brown spent ten years as a civilian First Assistant Secretary (FAS) in Defence, initially as Head of the Audit and Fraud Control Division and most recently as FAS Budgets and Financial Services. Mr Brown spent 12 months seconded to Prime Minister and Cabinet where he headed the Task Force overseeing the government's response to per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) water contamination. Mr Brown has made two trips to Afghanistan. Prior to joining Defence, Geoff worked in large multinational corporations. Working in these roles Geoff has lived overseas including Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore Indonesia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Malawi, Sierra Leone and across Europe.
Geoff has rowed since his first year of high school at Newington College in Sydney, where he rowed in the school First VIII in 1974. He rowed with the same crew at the 1974 King's Cup Regatta, as New South Wales No. 2, coming second in the inaugural Australian Youth VIII Championship (Wilkinson Trophy).
Geoff joined Sydney Rowing Club after leaving school – winning at both State and National Championships. In 2009 Geoff joined Canberra Rowing Club where has just completed his appointment as Club President. He is part of the Australian Defence Force King's Cup coaching team and, when time permits, rows in Masters ranks.
