The Australian Government has committed to invest more than $1.3 billion over the decade to FY2025-26, to deliver innovative solutions for Australian Defence capability.
Defence welcomes innovative ideas from industry, no matter how big or small, that have the potential to enhance Defence capability, business processes or resource utilisation. Minor tailoring of an existing service or product to meet Defence requirements will normally not qualify as innovative.
The Defence Innovation Hub will invest around $640 million over the decade in maturing and further developing technologies which have moved from the early science stages into the engineering and development stages of the innovation process.
The Next Generation Technologies Fund (NGTF) will invest around $730 million over the decade. NGTF is a forward looking program focusing on research in emerging and future technologies that could deliver game-changing capabilities for Defence. Innovative technologies and concepts researched under the NGTF could be further developed and realised into capability through the Defence Innovation Hub.
The Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC) works with companies to provide information about Defence innovation requirements, prepare companies to enter the innovation process, and ensure that innovation proposals are suitable for funding consideration.
