Factors that influnce ANEF Maps

Defence uses the same method to create ANEF maps as Australian civilian airports.

An ANEF takes into account a variety of factors that influence the amount of aircraft noise received at locations near an airfield, including:

  • Aircraft movements
    • Average number of daily departures (takeoffs)
    • Average number of daily circuits
    • Average number of daily arrivals (landings)
    • Commonly used flight paths
    • Common flight times (flights from 7pm to 7am are given a weighting)
  • Aircraft type
    • Engine power
    • Rate of climb
    • Aircraft noise intensity
    • Aircraft noise duration
    • Aircraft noise content
  • Local topography and climate

More information about the development of the ANEF system is available from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development.
