The Royal Australian Navy Staff Acquaint Course is a blended course incorporating periods of both distance and residential learning conducted in three phases over 42 days within a 12 month period. The two residential phases of the course are conducted at the Australian Defence College, Weston Campus in the Australian Capital Territory.
Graduates of the course achieve the passed staff acquaint course (psac) military qualification. The course prepares selected O4/O5 Officers and Warrant Officers for staff appointments in integrated, joint and single-Service environments at the O5 level.
The course curriculum is delivered primarily at Joint Professional Military Education Level Three. It focuses on developing practical skills in research and analysis, problem solving techniques and the presentation of solutions in oral and written forms required of the expert staff officer. Graduates will gain a strong background in maritime strategy and doctrine, joint operations, Defence management and whole-of-government working.
