The Australian Command and Staff Course (Reserve) is a blended course incorporating periods of both distance and residential learning conducted over 83 days in a calendar year. The residential component of the course is conducted at the Australian Defence College, Weston Campus in the Australian Capital Territory.
Graduates of the course achieve a post staff course (reserve) (psc(r)) military qualification. The course prepares selected O4/ O5 Army Reserve officers for command and staff appointments in integrated, joint and single-Service environments at the O5 and O6 level.
The Australian Command and Staff Course (Reserve) curriculum is delivered primarily at Joint Professional Military Education Level Three. It uses historical and contemporary events to test the relevance and applicability of military theory.
Graduates will gain a broader understanding of strategy, capability development, joint operational planning, as well as the theory and nature of command, leadership and ethics. Over the period of study, students will enhance critical thinking skills and apply them to complex problems to create innovative solutions.
