How to apply for a Work Experience Placement with Defence

To Submit an application:

  1. Find a Defence Work Experience placement that interests you, and that you are able to attend. Details of placements can be found under 'Current Work Experience Placements' section.
  2. Complete the online Defence Work Experience Application Form.
  3. Submit the completed application form online.

Applications must be submitted through the online application system eRecruit prior to the closing date.

Note: The Work Experience Application Form is not an agreement to a work experience placement with Defence. A placement can only be confirmed once a Work Experience Agreement Form has been agreed to by all parties and signed by Defence authorised approver.

What happens next:

  1. Defence will advise your School Work Experience Coordinator in writing if your application for placement is accepted.
  2. If accepted, you will receive a Letter of Acceptance and a Work Experience Placement Agreement (WEP) form.
  3. To accept the work experience placement offer:

    - complete the WEP form;

    - have it signed by yourself, your parent/guardian (if you are under the age of 18) and your school principal; and

    - return it to your Work Experience Coordinator.

  4. Your School Work Experience Coordinator will submit your Work Experience Placement Agreement to Defence for approval.
  5. Once the Agreement is approved by Defence, your school will be provided with a copy of the approved Work Experience Placement Agreement plus information related to the placement for the student.

Note: Contact your School Work Experience Coordinator with any queries related to your application.

Withdrawing an application:

If you have submitted an application and no longer wish to be considered for the Work Experience Program, you must:

- Withdraw your application in eRecruit and

- Inform the Work Experience Program via email at

- Defence.WorkExperienceProgram@defence.gov.au quoting the WEP reference number.

NOTE: Do not withdraw your application for editing. Once your application is withdrawn in eRecruit you can NOT re-submit and you will not be able to submit a new application for the same work placement.

For futher information refer to the eRecruitment Applicant User Guide.
