How to apply for a Work Experience Placement with Defence

Step 1

Find a Defence work experience placement that you would like to, and are able to, attend.

Step 2

Complete the Defence Work Experience Program Application Form

NB:- Please complete the application form only for placements advertised. Please send an enquiry to Defence.WorkExperienceProgram@defence.gov.au if you are interested in a placement that is not currently advertised.

Step 3

Give the completed application form to your School's Work Experience Coordinator.

(Your Work Experience Coordinator will complete the final sections of the Form and is responsible for approving and submitting your Application Form to Defence's nominated point of contact for your proposed placement)

Step 4

Defence will advise your Work Experience Coordinator in writing about your placement.

(If accepted you will be provided with a letter of acceptance and a Work Experience Placement Agreement form)

Step 5

To accept an offer of a work experience placement, a Defence Work Experience Placement Agreement form must be completed and signed by:

  • you
  • your parent/guardian (if you are under the age of 18) and
  • your school principal.

Step 6

Your Work Experience Coordinator should then submit your Work Experience Placement Agreement to the nominated Defence point of contact for approval.

NB:-A Certificate of Currency needs to be sent to the Defence Point of Contact along with the Work Experience Placement Agreement.

Step 7

Once the Agreement has been approved by Defence, you and your school will be provided with a copy of the approved Work Experience Placement Agreement plus important student information related to their placement.

Note 1: The Work Experience Application Form is not an agreement to a work experience placement with Defence. A work experience placement can only be confirmed after a Work Experience Agreement Form has been agreed to by all relevant parties and signed by Defence authorised approver.

Note 2: Work experience coordinators should contact the Defence nominated point of contact for the proposed placement if they have any queries in relation to an application or a placement.

Note 3: Students are to direct any enquiries related to their Work Experience applications to their Work Experience Coordinator.
