Headquarters 7 Brigade, based at Gallipoli Barracks Enoggera in Queensland, holds several two day placements a year with approximately 28 students attending each placement.
Throughout the two day placement the students were exposed to the Army Learning Production Centre, Army Malaria Institute, Weapons Training Simulation System, Light Horse Regiment Museum and Mounted Infantry, Night Training Facility, 16 Brigade Army Aviation, Gymnasium and 9th Battalion Royal Queensland Regiment. Lunch was served at the Gallipoli Other Ranks Mess giving the students a taste of what can be expected during Service life. They also participated in a Physical Fitness Assessment which is quite common in the Army.
The students really enjoyed their time at Headquarters 7 Brigade, which was supervised by WO1 Peter Thatcher. Following are some comments from students:
"I had great fun and it was extremely educational and enlightening" Cameron Thomson; Bray Park State High School.
"So good! Soldiers were friendly and I reckon I can see myself joining the Army for sure" Tom Cooper; Kilcoy State High School.
"Was very enjoyable, got to experience activities that real soldiers do for their training" Bryce Byrne; Corinda State High School.
"The two days were a great insight to Army life and the things involved in the jobs" Riki Lamont; Immanuel Lutheran College.
"I liked that everyone we met was down to earth about answering questions and I enjoyed all the practical activities" Joe Ryan-Spearritt; Genesis Christian College.
