Compliance and enforcement

The Defence Act 1903 and Woomera Prohibited Area Rule 2014 include compliance and enforcement measures including offences and penalties for entering the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) without permission and for failing to comply with the conditions of a permit.

The permit conditions are designed primarily to ensure your safety, the safety of others within the WPA and the security of Defence activities.

Anyone contravening a permit condition may be issued with an infringement notice and demerit points under Parts 6 and 7 of the Rule.

Compliance is enforced by the Defence Compliance and Monitoring Team (CMT). The CMT comprises uniformed Defence personnel who patrol the WPA to monitor compliance with permit conditions. Permit holders are required to comply with all reasonable directions of the CMT.
