Joint Logistics Command

Joint Logistics Command (JLC) is headed by a 2-star officer (Commander Joint Logistics (CJLOG)) - Major General David Mulhall, DSC, AM, CSC.

JLC's mission is to lead the coordinated delivery of effective and efficient logistics to enable Defence to train, fight and win. CJLOG commands the ADF's logistics information systems, the logistics network of warehouses, maintenance, distribution facilities, and is the Head of the fuel supply chain.

CJLOG provides strategic advice and is responsible for the planning, delivery and assurance of designated logistics support to the ADF. In addition CJLOG is also responsible for the provision of logistic support to operations.

Major General David Mulhall, DSC, AM, CSC

David Mulhall was born in Brisbane and completed school at Marist College Ashgrove. He graduated from the Officer Cadet School Portsea in 1984 into the Royal Australian Corps of Transport.

After gaining regimental, staff and representational experience, including a posting to the British Army's School of Logistics to study advanced operational logistics, Major General Mulhall was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in January 2000. He instructed at the Army Command and Staff College that year and then upon the establishment of the Australian Command and Staff College in 2001, he was posted as one of the Directing Staff. Major General Mulhall then had the privilege to command the 1st Combat Service Support Battalion in 2002-03. This was followed by a posting to the Directorate Officer Career Management - Army as the Career Advisor for lieutenant colonels, during which time he also acted as the Director Officer Career Management – Army for eight months.

Major General Mulhall was promoted to Colonel in July 2005 and served as the Director Personnel Operations – Army, before deploying as the Chief of Plans (Logistics), Multi-National Force – Iraq. A posting as the Director Logistics – Army followed, and then attendance at the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies in 2008. Major General Mulhall was promoted to Brigadier and appointed as the inaugural Chief of Staff Army Headquarters in January 2009. He then had the great privilege to command 17th Combat Service Support Brigade from 2011 to 2013.

Major General Mulhall served for a short period as Director General Strategic Logistics, Joint Logistic Command before promotion to his current rank in April 2014. He deployed to Afghanistan in May 2014 as the Deputy Chief of Staff – Resources, Headquarters International Security Assistance Force, and then subsequently as the Deputy Chief of Staff - Support, Headquarters Resolute Support when the NATO mission transitioned on 1 January 2015. Upon a re-structure of Australian national command arrangements in the Greater Middle East Region, Major General Mulhall was appointed from 1 November 2014 as Commander Joint Task Force 636 – the only officer to serve in that role and notable also given his concurrent Coalition appointment. Major General Mulhall returned to Australia in June 2015 and has been appointed as Commander Joint Logistics from December 2015.

Major General Mulhall was appointed a Member of the Military Division of the Order of Australia in 2007, awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross in 2011 and has also been awarded the US Army Bronze Star Medal. He has successfully read for a Master of Engineering, Master of Defence Studies, Post Graduate Diploma of Transportation Planning and Management, Graduate Diploma of Strategic Studies and a Bachelor of Professional Studies.
