Once you have made your decision to separate, you will be required to commence the separation process by submitting your application for Resignation, Discharge or Transfer to the Reserves (Web Form AC853) through your chain of Command.
ADF members and their families can obtain general information in relation to transition support services plus details for ADF Transition Centre's and ADF Transition Seminars from their Customer Service Centres located at each major base.
On receipt of your Form AC853, your Career Management Agency will issue the authority for you to be separated from the Permanent Force. This will be advised through PMKeyS in the case of Navy and Air Force separations, and via signal for Army separations.
Further detail on the each Services separation requirements are provided at the following links: (use the A-Z Contact List to view the organisations contact details).
Prior to your separation, you should ascertain if you are, or are likely to become eligible for any Honours and Awards. Typically if you have served on operational service or you may become eligible for the Australian Defence Medal, you should ensure that your personnel records are updated to ensure you receive your entitlement.
You should visit the Defence Honours and Awards website (www.defence.gov.au/medals) and if applicable commence any application process before you leave Defence.
Your unit orderly room or CSC will facilitate the processing of any leave applications you submit as part of your separation.
Unused leave will be paid to you as part of your final separation pay.
This is generally deposited into your nominated pay account 4-5 working days after separation.
Your supporting ADF Transition Centre can confirm for you that all necessary leave and pay related matters are uploaded into the relevant systems approximately 5 working days prior to separation.
