Glossary and Definitions

 

The following glossary/definitions are used by all ADF Transition Centres, Military Personnel Administration Centres (MPACs), Career Management Agencies (CMAs) and Directorate of Entitlement (DE) when administering separation for ADF members.

 

Last day of Service:
The last day that the member has to work (this is to be used on the AC853).

 

Discharge date:
The last day that the member has to work (this only applies to ADFPAY).

 

Separation date:
The date of the day following the last day of service (this applies to both PMKeyS and ADFPAY).

 

Termination date:
The date of the day following the last day of service (this applies to both PMKeyS and ADFPAY). This is the same as Separation date.

 

Transfer date:
The date of the day following the last day of service (this applies to PMKeyS and the AC853. This is the same as Separation date)

 

Prescribed date:
Is either:
"The date before the separation date"; or
"The date of commencement of leave prior to separation; or
"The date of commencement of resettlement training". (This only applies to ADFPAY).

 

Compulsory Retirement Age:
Compulsory Retirement Age (CRA) means a member's compulsory retirement age as defined in the Defence (Personnel) Regulations 2002.

 

Minimum Effective Service:
Details of Minimum Effective Service for the three Services can be found on the DEFWEB for each Service's Career Management page.

 

Inter-Service Transfer:
Transferring from one Service to another Service.

 

Corps/ Muster/Rate:
Single Service Employment Categorisation

 

Referral:
Advising that the member is requiring/requesting their assistance.

 

Long Service Leave:
All ADF Members are entitled to accrue Long Service Leave (LSL) under PACMAN Chapter 5 Part 3

 

Warlike Service:
Warlike service means service in the Defence Force of a kind determined as Warlike service for the purposes of the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986.

 

Return of Service Obligation:
Return of Service Obligation (ROSO) means a period of service determined by the relevant Service Chief under the Defence (Personnel) Regulations 2002. It is a period of service a member must complete in return for some kind of service opportunities. For example:

 

 

Reserve Service:
Reserve service is part-time service undertaken by a member of the Reserves. Members on Reserve service are paid a daily rate of salary. Members on Reserve service are not on continuous full-time service. This is so even if they service for a continuous number of days of Reserve service.

 

Pay to the Commonwealth:
This is the member's obligation to pay (or repay) money to the Commonwealth. This is if the member incurs a debt of liability to the Commonwealth. For example:

 

Non-warlike Service:
Non-warlike service means both of these kinds of service for the purposes of the Veteran's Entitlements Act 1986:

 

Living-in Accommodation:
Living in Accommodation (LIA) means either of these forms of accommodation:

 

Continuous Full Time Service:
Continuous Full Time Service (CFTS or 4J3) excludes Reserve service. Members on CFTS are paid an annual rate of salary. CFTS or 4J3 applies to the service performed by these two groups of members:
