General Dynamics Land Systems - Australia (GDLS-A) is a strategic resource meeting the immediate needs of the Australian Defence Force and the New Zealand Army. With a world-class manufacturing facility in Pooraka, South Australia, and logistics centres in Darwin and Brisbane, GDLS-A is strategically positioned to provide quality production and logistics support throughout the region.

This capability is based on sound commercial relationships with the OEMs of the systems integrated with the GDLS platforms. The benefits of establishing these relationships and locating the capability in regional centres such as Darwin and Brisbane are:

  • a faster turn around time of assemblies due to the one-for-one replacement arrangements;
  • the provision of locally-based GDLS-A technical support for the in-service maintenance and engineering tasks; and
  • the provision of long-term storage of vehicles that are maintained in a serviceable condition and available to the user.

General Dynamics Land Systems - Australia is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) and General Dynamics Corporation. GDLS designs and builds tanks, light armoured vehicles, military trucks and sub-systems which have been sold to major western and allied forces including: United States Marine Corps, United States Army, Canadian Army, Australian Army, New Zealand Army, Swiss Army, UK Army, and the defence forces of Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

GDLS has been in continuous contract with the Commonwealth of Australia since December 1992. This experience managing large value and technically complex materiel acquisition projects has enabled GDLS-A to establish a relationship with the contract stakeholders based on trust and an understanding of each other's requirements. Shared objectives have ensured mutual responsibility for delivery of the most capable materiel solution to the user, representing value for money and delivered in accordance political and strategic guidance.

GDLS-A is a strategic resource meeting the needs of the Australian Defence Force and the New Zealand Army. With a modern manufacturing facility and regional logistics centres GDLS-A is strategically positioned to provide quality production and cost-effective logistics support throughout the region. Current contracts include refurbishment of 113 ASLAV wheeled armoured vehicles to standardise the capability with that of the 144 new ASLAVs. Other contracts include the production and testing of the Typhoon 25mm weapon mount for the Royal Australian Navy Patrol Boat Replacement Program.
