stand-off rounds

The Poly Systems ‘heavy gel' ‘Stand-off Rounds' have been developed as an alternative consumable to dearm/disrupt/demobilise and provide increased operator safety. The RAKED is positioned outside the nominal three metres IED/EOD response operator with the advantage of ‘heavy gel' entry into a variety of packaging media, including metal containers.

The 27mm cal Stand-Off Rounds (SOR) is in three length variations:
132mm
100mm
66mm
Available in 25.4mm calibre. Other calibres can be supplied.

Soft target: operational parameters minimum distance from target – 7.5 metres. Has been successfully trialled and tested at over 10 metres.

Hard target: standard steel ammunition box – minimum operational distance 2.5 metres form target. Has been successfully trialled and tested over 5 metres.

DescriptionPertinent information

Stand-off Rounds (SOR) are designed to:

  • dearm or deactivate IED or EOD in urban or difficult terrain locations (including electronic trigger devices for improvised chemical and biological devices) and large vehicle bombs
  • discharge from standard 27mm parallel bore/nose RAKED
  • enhance operator survival capabilities by siting the RAKED outside the 3m ‘killing zone'
  • use the ‘heavy gel' loading to enter a range of packaging mediums including metal cases so as to instantaneously demise the firing mechanism without destructing forensic evidence;
  • operate at a distance from the IED to preclude burning discharged explosive, gas and flame from entering and inadvertently discharging the IED/EOD
  • offer a choice in SOR lengths of 132mm, 100mm or 66mm to meet specific target capability demands

Terrestrial use SORs are alternative RAKED consumables (to specifically enhance operator safety at ranges up to 50m) in projectile lengths of 132mm, 100mm and 66mm x 27mm. The required length SOR is loaded into a 27mm RAKED and positioned in the bore to suit the required discharge velocity. On impacting the IED/OED the SOR bursts through the surface material causing the environmentally friendly ‘heavy gel' to eject under momentum to dearm/disrupt/dismobilise the IED/OED with minimum fragmentation. SORs may be used in aircraft as a lethal projectile or for IEDD.

Marine-use SORs for attached to hull, wharf or on seabed devices, for the disruption of an inbound threat (guided or non-guided) and to defeat manned or unmanned underwater covert operatives or floating mines are under development.

A luminescent ‘heavy gel' is provided for night and dark area use.
