laser warning receivers (Hydra laser warner test set)
The primary role of the Hydra is to provide an independent short range end-to-end test of laser warning receivers (LWRs) and give combat crews maximum confidence in their platform's Electronic Warfare Self Protection (EWSP) equipment. The Hydra stimulates the LWR by simulating actual laser threat signatures. The Hydra generates controlled radiation that reproduces Laser Range Finder (LRF), Laser Beam Rider (LBR) and Laser Target Designator (LTD) missile threat signatures.
Unlike other EWSP test equipment that use injection techniques, the Hydra tests the optical front-end of the sensor, verifying the complete system.
The Hydra is capable of testing both land-based and airborne LWR systems and is essential for:
- pre-mission checking of EWSP equipment
- post-installation verification of EWSP equipment
- test and evaluation of EWSP equipment
- research and development tool
Benefits of the Hydra:
- proven performance: successfully tested against a number of LWR systems
- flexibility: programmable to simulate a variety of laser threats including LRF, LTD and LBR
- self-monitoring: built in test safeguard
- ruggedised: suitable for all operations including naval environments
- ease of use: minimal user training and maintenance
- end-to-end testing: tests the optical front-end of LWRs
The Hydra is capable of performing end-to-end testing of many LWRs including VVR-1, AVR-2A(V), AVR-3(V) and LWS-200/300/400 systems.
