communications surveillance (Blue Owl)

Blue Owl is a compact stand-alone communications surveillance system for signal detection and analysis.

The system provides continuous automatic real-time wideband search, detection, collection and analysis of communications signals. Characteristics include wide staring bandwidth, fast scanning ability, flexible monitoring, integrated narrowband channel extraction, signal characterisation capability and expansion flexibility.

One of Blue Owl's strengths is its architecture. Modularity and scalability allow easy re-configuration. Consequently, Blue Owl meets a wide variety of surveillance tasks that require wideband staring, fast scanning and direction finding capabilities. The architecture also allows easy capability upgrades to cater for the changing signal environment.

Designed for both strategic and tactical applications, Blue Owl is available in a range of forms, including ruggedised formats.

Blue Owl has its origins in DSTO research, refined and developed by Daronmont. Defence has acquired one variant of the system.
