The CEA Solid State Continuous Wave Illuminator (SSCWI) Transmitter is suitable guidance of semi-active homing surface to air missiles including Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM).

The SSCWI provides control and functionality with the hardware control interface. The SSCWI provides performance gains, size reduction and enhanced maintainability and reliability because of its core solid state technology, versus non-solid state transmitters.

CEA's Solid State CWI system provides significant reliability advantageous when compared to earlier CWI transmitters.

The availability of the CWI system is crucial to the overall effectiveness of the Sea Sparrow missile and the new Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM). Consequently, an opportunity was perceived to enhance the system through the use of distributed solid state RF technology.
