avatar unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)
Codarra designed and developed the AVATAR as a private venture R&D project to extend the company's in-house surveillance and image capture capability products.
The AVATAR Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has been designed to provide short range ‘over-the-hill' or ‘around-the-corner' reconnaissance. Images are transmitted to ground forces in real-time to facilitate their battlefield tactical planning and decision-making. There are a variety of payloads providing hi-resolution real-time still images and video downlinks, using both daylight and thermal imaging night vision capabilities.
The AVATAR flight vehicle is an all electric system designed for reduced acoustic signature and, by removing the requirement to store or handle hazardous fuels, safe operation. The AVATAR is a fully re-usable and rechargeable (expendable) UAV, breaking down into easy-to-transport sections carried in either back-packs or Pelican™ cases.
Avatar is in use with the Australian Army, Defence Science and Technology Organisation and the Queensland University of Technology.
