Hobart Class air warfare destroyers
In April 2005, the Australian Government selected Raytheon Australia as the Combat System Systems Engineer in the Alliance to build Australia's Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyers. The Alliance comprises the Defence Material Organisation, ASC (shipbuilder) and Raytheon Australia.
Raytheon Australia's role is of Mission Systems Integrator to 'Australianise' the combat system around the Aegis core. The contract recognises Raytheon's Mission Systems Integration expertise and ability to work closely with Defence - particularly the Defence Materiel Organisation.
Raytheon's excellent record in Mission Systems Integration in Australia and internationally, including the Collins Class Submarines Replacement Combat System, Electronic Warfare Training Services for the Australian Defence Force, and the US Navy's DD(X) destroyers and LPD-17 amphibious ships, will facilitate the transfer of experience and expertise to ensure Australia achieves a world-class capability in its new air warfare destroyers when they enter service over the next decade.
