Strategic Policy
Strategic Policy Division (SPD) builds the strategic framework for capability planners and warfighters. It provides analysis of Australia's strategic environment in both the short and long term to inform decision making, including on the development and use of Defence capability. It produces higher level Defence guidance, deliberate planning and military strategic guidance on the employment and deployment of the ADF.
The Division manages Australian export controls and provides policy advice on arms control and international collaborative programs that include the Proliferation Security Initiative and Missile Defence. SPD coordinates Defence involvement in domestic Counter Terrorism. It manages strategic education for the policy workforce, and Defence relations with external bodies, including the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.
