Directorate of Future Warfighting

The Directorate of Future Warfighting is a joint organisation that leads the work that defines the Australian Defence Force (ADF) of the future. It does this through the production of joint concepts that underpin the ADF's concept-led and capability-based approach to modernisation, and coordination of the ADF's Joint Experimentation program.

The ADF's future concepts provide the start point for experimentation and force design. The Force 2020 concept (2002) and the Future Warfighting Concept (2003) provide vision and focus to enable Defence to meet the challenges of the future. Force 2020, in particular, describes Defence's transition to concept-led long-range planning. This approach to planning will be used by Defence to identify the ADF's major drivers and future missions and to develop operating concepts to enhance its ability to fulfil these missions and tasks. Joint Experimentation will provide the link between strategic guidance and capability planning.

The Directorate of Future Warfighting actively encourages feedback and comment from the ADF and the broader Defence community. Contact Us.
