Restricted Goods Permit

The Australian Customs Service is responsible for issuing on behalf of DECO, for the temporary export of firearms, ammunition and accessories (for sporting use, etc) as accompanied baggage when departing from International Terminals. Applicants must complete form DEC07 - Restricted Goods Permit (RGP) Application and present to Customs which issues the actual permits. Please contact Customs on 1300 363 263 for further information.

Customs requires all exports (not only controlled items) to have a unique identification number. Businesses can register using their ABN. Individuals will require a Customs Client Identifier Number (CCID) (available on the Customs website).

Military imports requiring end-use certification

For Australian Companies (or Defence Projects) seeking to import military goods which require end-use certification, please contact the Processing and Licensing Section (PALS) on 1800 66 10 66. An officer from the PALS Group will provide you with the details you should forward to DECO to obtain an End Use Certificate for goods entering Australia.

Re-exports and/or re-transfers of goods and technology sourced from a third country

Australian exporters must comply with certain limitations/constraints on re-export or re-transfer goods and technology sourced from another country. Further information on re-transfer issues is provided in sections 5.3 and 5.4 of the publication, Australian Controls on the Export Of Defence And Dual Use Goods and Question 6C on form DEC01 - Export Application, or phone 1800 66 10 66 for further details. Information about US retransfer options should be discussed in the first instance with Mr Steve Hyland, Director US Export Control Systems, phone on 0416 265 037.

Serial numbers must be supplied prior to the issuance of a permit or licence

Prior to an export permit being issued serial numbers need to be provided to DECO (fax (02) 6265 4583 or email). In the event that goods would not be manufactured until an export permit is issued, DECO will notify the client that a permit has been approved, but will remain pending (not issued) until notification of serial numbers has been received. The DECO reference number for that application will be provided - but not the permit number. The permit will be issued immediately upon receipt of the required serial number(s)."
