Any member of Defence who has been affected by a sexual offence can, at any time, contact their local State/Territory police or ring 000 in an emergency.

What is a Restricted Disclosure?

A Restricted Disclosure allows a person to disclose their experience directly to SeMPRO without involving the chain of command/line management, ADFIS or the State/Territory police. This option has been implemented by Defence to encourage ADF members who may not otherwise report to come forward to receive appropriate support to assist them in their recovery.
Anyone making a Restricted Disclosure to SeMPRO will receive advice, support and guidance. SeMPRO support coordinators can also assist you to access medical attention, if required.

Will my disclosure be kept confidential?

SeMPRO support coordinators provide a confidential service. The only exceptions to this are where there is an imminent risk of harm to self or others, or mandatory reporting obligations. Any limits to confidentiality will be discussed directly with you when you call.

Changing a Restricted Disclosure to an Unrestricted Report does not mean that everyone should or will know about you or what happened to you. If you decide to make an Unrestricted Report, SeMPRO can assist you to ensure that your details are disclosed only to those who need to know.

Further information

If you are unsure about whether you can make a Restricted Disclosure, call 1800 SeMPRO (1800 736 776). SeMPRO staff will advise you when a matter cannot be accepted as a Restricted Disclosure and will continue to work with you in order to provide appropriate support and guidance.

You can, at any time, request your Restricted Disclosure be transferred to an Unrestricted Report. This may result in investigative action by ADFIS or State/Territory police, or a command-initiated inquiry.
