What is podcasting?
Podcasting is a way of automatically receiving the latest Defence video and audio files via internet. The advantage that podcasting technoloqy has over traditional audio downloads is that by subscribing, your browser or podcasting software can monitor the updates to the Defence podcasting pages and download the briefings direct to your computer for you to play or to download to your MP3 player.
Podcasts vary in size and can be more than 20Mb for a 30-minute briefing. Defence will always attempt to keep the size of audio and video podcasts as small as possible.
Getting Started
Most current web browsers automatically recognise podcast pages. Microsoft internet Explorer 7.x and Firefox 2.x are examples. Some free software like Apple's iTunes or Juice Receiver can automatically download new podcasts and store them in a folder on your computer. Simply subscribe to the podcast and the podcasting software will automatically check for updates and download the latest files to your computer.
Unfortunately, those using the current Defence DRN SOE will not be able to receive Podcasts at this time.
Audio briefings can be downloaded directly from the Media Briefings page: http://www.defence.gov.au/media/download/audio/index.cfm
For those who wish to receive podcasts but have older browsers, the following free Podcasting subscription software is available:
iTunes (PC/Mac) and
Juice (PC/Mac/Linux)
