Special Forces sustainability allowance

Special Forces sustainability allowance encourages you to take postings outside your parent unit. This allows you to contribute to the achievement of wider ADF outcomes.

Who can get Special Forces sustainability allowance?

You may get Special Forces sustainability allowance if you:

  • are a member of the Permanent Forces, and
  • have Commando, Special Air Service or Disablement Technician qualifications.

When can I get Special Forces sustainability allowance?

You may get Special Forces sustainability allowance you are:

  • qualified
  • at substantive rank from Corporal to Lieutenant Colonel
  • likely to return to a Special Forces unit, and
  • posted to
    • a Special Forces instructor position
    • any position outside your Special Forces unit, or
    • a position outside Special Operations Command.

You may be paid an annual allowance.

You may get other allowances if you get Special Forces sustainability allowance.

When can't I get Special Forces sustainability allowance?

You may not get your Special Forces sustainability allowance if:

  • you don't meet specific Special Forces eligibility conditions
  • you are unlikely to return to a Special Forces regiment, or
  • it is more than 3 years since you were eligible for the allowance.
