Clearance diver allowance

You may get clearance diver allowance to make up for the special demands of clearance diving activities or support.

Who can get clearance diver allowance?

You may get clearance diver allowance if you are a member of the:

  • Permanent Forces
  • Reserves on continuous full-time service, or
  • Reserves on Reserve Service.

When can I get clearance diver allowance?

You may get clearance diver allowance if you are a qualified clearance diver and posted to :

  • a clearance diving team
  • the Mine Hunter Coastal Unit
  • the RAN Diving School
  • an explosive ordnance disposal response team
  • an improvised explosive device disposal response team
  • the Australian Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Task Group, or
  • a position that performs clearance diving support activities for a clearance diving team.

If you are directed to undertake duties similar to any of the above positions, you may get clearance diver allowance.

You may get clearance diver allowance if you are:

  • undergoing initial clearance diver training
  • posted to a clearance diver trainee position, and
  • directed on a day to perform trainee clearance diving activities.

You may get an annual or a daily rate of allowance.

Can I get other allowances at the same time?

If you get clearance diver allowance, you may get some allowances at the same time. These include:

  • a deep dive supplement
  • an experimental dive supplement
  • unpredictable explosives allowance
  • Special Forces disability allowance, and/or
  • trainee allowance.

If you get clearance diver allowance and unpredictable explosives allowance or Special Forces disability allowance at the same time, you get whichever rate is higher.

If you get clearance diver allowance, you may not get other allowances at the same time. These include:

  • adventurous training instructor allowance
  • arduous conditions instructor allowance
  • boarding party allowance
  • diving allowance
  • field allowance
  • flying disability allowance
  • paratrooper allowance
  • maritime disability allowance
  • maritime sustainability allowance, and/or
  • submarine escape allowance.
