    Sapper Matthew Taxis joined the Australian Army as a combat engineer in 2009 and was posted to the 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane. At the Invictus Games 25 year-old Matthew intends to support the other Australian competitors while competing to the best of his sporting ability. He injured his back during pre-deployment training in 2011 and is in the process of corps transferring to the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. When asked about his previous sporting highlights, Matthew said he scored a strike while ten-pin bowling once. During the Invictus Games he will be competing in the shot-put, archery, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and the driving challenge.

    Sapper Curtis McGrath tells Minister for Defence Science and Personnel how he lost his legs in an IED blast in Afghanistan. Sapper McGrath, who won three gold medals at the US Marine Corps Trials, helped the ADF team to win a haul of 12 gold and three silver medals. The Trials were conducted at Camp Pendleton in the United States from February 20 to March 11 and form an important part of the ADF Paralympic Sports Program’s ‘Exercise Wounded Warrior Program’. His golden triumphs were in the 50m and 100m freestyles, and the 50m backstroke, not only won the respect of his team-mates and rival competitors but marked a major milestone in his recovery progress.
