Our People in WAAaron Tarbotton - Navy opens doors for Bunbury boy
Bunbury local Aaron Tarbotton has plenty of responsibilities onboard the Royal Australian Navy Anzac Class frigate HMAS Parramatta.
The Newton Moore Senior High School graduate is now a Leading Seaman. He has specialised as an electronic technician, responsible for maintaining the combat and fire control system of the ship.
As well as making sure the ship is able to fire its weapons, Aaron is also in charge of the ship’s emergency fire-fighting team, first on the scene in the event of a fire at sea.
“I love that every single day is different,” Aaron said. “Some days are really challenging while others are just lots of fun.”
Wearing the Navy uniform has already taken Aaron around the world, visiting countries such as Turkey, Malta, England and France.
“The Navy has also taken me to China, South Korea and East Timor,” he said.
“I’ve also been an instructor at Recruit School. I really enjoyed the chance to influence new recruits and help them begin their Navy careers,” he said.
“My next goal is to get promoted – I would eventually like to be a Fire Control Officer.”
HMAS Parramatta is one of eight Anzac Class frigates and is based just up the coast at Fleet Base East, Garden Island.
Aaron and his shipmates are currently deploying to South East Asia.
