Able Seaman Steward Lydia Hardman - Mandurah Western Australia

Lydia 's Hometown is Mandurah Western Australia. Family still reside there.

High School: Graduated year 12 from Frederick Irwin Anglican School.

Lydia was a true sports participator. She was involved with Basketball, netball, Vollyball and Football. Nothing current due to the Navy posting nature.

Lydia was inspired to join the Navy by attending a good friends Recruit School Graduation Parade. She couldn't believe the sense of being apart of what felt like a huge family.. This experience really warmed her to the idea.

Lydia joined the RAN at age of 18 in March 2003, where she completed her initial 11 weeks Recruit training followed by a 10 week school of Catering at HMAS Cerberus.

Her First Posting was to HMAS Watson Sydney.

"I love being a Steward, I wouldn't change it for the world. I love interating with people all day and the socialising. I enjoy dealing with people" Said Lydia

"I believe in a positive attitude brings a team together, especially when the pressure gets tough"

"I will certainly stay in the Navy for another few years, I'm on my way for promotion to Leadng Seaman.

"I love and want more of the challenges in my career, this is what the promotion will offer me" She said.

Lydia 's role here at Fleet Base West Wardroom is an acting Leading Seaman role, where she deligates people to attend to accomodation requirements. She Is IC of the Accommodation Cabins. Making sure the Cabins are made and defect reporting.

Lydia has spent time on HMAS Stuart where ventured overseas with the Crew to Hawaii, Tonga , Samoa , Auckland , Guam , Thailand , Singpore, and back to Australia.

"I loved the overseas trip, had a great crew, the team spirit really pulled it in together and it makes the biggest difference."

"I strongly believe everyone turning 18 should give the defence at least 2 years. You learn so much. the basics of looking after yourself" She said
