Adam Cox - Albany, WA

Albany local Adam Cox is now half a world away, on operations with the Australian Defence Force in the Middle-East.

Adam, a former student at St Joseph 's College, joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 2003 and undertook pilot training in Tamworth , NSW, and Pearce , WA. Now promoted to Pilot Officer, Adam is a co-pilot on the AP-3C Orion aircraft.

PLTOFF Cox is part of a task group of 170 ADF aircrew and support staff operating two AP-3C Orion aircraft on patrol over Iraq and the Persian Gulf to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq and the international coalition operation against terrorism.

"I am one of a 15 person crew. I help prepare the aircraft before each mission. Once we are in the air I share the flying with the Captain. I am learning all the flying skills that will help me take command of my own aircraft and crew in a year's time."

"It's a great experience being on operations overseas. I am part of a close-knit crew and we are all great mates. As with any job, it has its moments, but it's really rewarding. Its great to be part of the big picture over here and to be flying missions in support of my Army and Navy colleagues," said Adam.

Adam is currently posted to RAAF Edinburgh and will return to work there at the end of his current deployment.

"I am looking forward to getting home, seeing my girlfriend and taking a break before preparing for my next deployment."

Adam and the members of the AP-3C Orion task group are a key component of operation CATALYST which is Australia 's contribution to the multinational force efforts to develop a secure and stable environment in Iraq and to assist with national recovery programs. Operation CATALYST comprises approximately 1575 personnel. The task group also supports operation SLIPPER, Australia 's contribution to the international effort against terrorism.

Adam and his colleagues from the current detachment are scheduled to return to Australia in late June.
