Matthew Bleach - Super Hornets Set To Thrill Crowds At Avalon Air Show

SITTING in class at Scoresby Primary School, Melbourne Victoria, Matthew Bleach often dreamt of emulating his grandfather’s distinguished service in the Royal Australian Air Force during WWII.

After years attending the Australian Formula 1Grand Prix and admiring the RAAF flypasts Matthew turned that dream into reality when in 2009 he joined the Air Force through its ‘Gap Year’ program.

Flying Officer Matthew Bleach is now a qualified Weapon Systems Officer in a state-of- the art F/A-18F Super Hornet. He is a valued member of Number 1 Squadron which is based at RAAF Base Amberley in southern Queensland.

The Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18F Super Hornet gives Australia an upgraded air combat capability for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

The F/A-18F Super Hornets are larger than the classic model with many detail improvements. Air Force has 24 F/A-18F Super Hornets, which will ensure that Australia's air combat capability edge is maintained.

Great mates, high levels of job satisfaction and the lure of travel around the world are just some of the bonuses of being an Air Force Officer.

“I really can’t complain about being paid to fly in a Super Hornet every day” FLGOFF Bleach said.

“I completed my Weapon Systems Officer training mid 2012. While I have only being flying in the Super Hornet for a relatively short time, one of the highlights has been flying past Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast at low level.”

Flying Officer Bleach and his colleagues are set to thrill the crowds at the upcoming Avalon International Air Show 2013.

The Air Show will be held 26 February to 3 March at Avalon Airport Geelong, Victoria. Members of the public can attend the Air Show from 1 March to 3 March.

“We are all looking forward to taking part in Avalon International Air Show 2013.  It will be a great opportunity to interact with the general public,” FLGOFF Bleach said.
