Bradley Whitehorn - Bradley's Tour of Duty

Hallett Cove’s Bradley Whitehorn, 22, is planning to get a new Holden Crewman next year, and maybe invest in property too, but he is going to have to work for it first.

Sapper Bradley Whitehorn was `a part time kitchen hand at Glenelg Golf Club but he decided it’s time to serve his country and have an adventure.

Bradley is now a sapper – an Army combat engineer – and in June he will be heading for eight months soldiering in Afghanistan.

Soon Bradley will be one of 1550 Australian soldiers in Afghanistan who will be helping to train Afghan soldiers and to restore peace to the troubled province.

“I joined the Army in 2008 and I’ve specialised as a combat engineer,” said Bradley. “I’m now qualified to search for improvised explosive devices and weapons caches.

“It’s my first overseas operation, and my job will deny supplies to the enemy and improve everyone’s chances of using the roads more safely – including our own troops.”

“It’s a vital role that will help the rest of our forces be more mobile. My Dad Bryan is a police officer, and he and my Mum Tanya are proud of me. “

Half way through the eight months Bradley’s planning to take a break in Budapest, and by the time he gets back to Australia he’ll be entitled to wear the Australian Active Service Medal – in good time for Anzac Day.
