Jason Carbone - BEAUFORT LOCAL WITNESSES KING OF TONGA’S CORONATION“I felt very honoured to be a part of the celebrations and to be onboard when His Excellency the Governor-General Michael Jeffery visited HMAS Ballarat during our time in Tonga,” Jason said.
During his visit, the Governor-General presented commendations to members of the ship’s company. The visit to HMAS Ballarat was quite special as it was His Excellency’s final Naval engagement, and in fact, the last time he will visit an ADF unit.
HMAS Ballarat, a long range warship, is currently deployed in the Southwest Pacific region to engage Australia’s regional neighbours and strengthen international ties.
Jason completed his tool making apprenticeship in Ballarat and gained his qualifications with 8 years experience.
He has excelled in his chosen field by becoming a Marine Systems Manager when he wore the rank of Able Seaman which allows him to drive the ship from the Machinery Control Room. Now Jason manages and trains people under his supervision and is responsible for the day to day running of the Refrigeration plant, and Air conditioning on board HMAS Ballarat.
A self confessed workaholic, Jason says “I love being at sea, and I would rather be at sea all the time, rather than being tied up along side.”
