David Ahchow - Beersheba Adventure

Bairnsdale’s Sergeant David Ahchow has returned from a trip that was definitely out of the ordinary.

He is just back from Beersheba in Israel, where his own grandfather took part in the great charge of the Light Horse in 1917 which captured the town from the Turks.

“I’m a mechanic by trade and serve as a Reservist in 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse. My father served with the same regiment the late 50s and early 60s — he was a Ferrett [armoured car] commander. And my grandfather was involved in the charge of the Light Horse back in 1917.

Now Sergeant Ahchow has a few more stories of his own to tell his wife and two kids, a 20-month-old daughter and a 7-year-old son.
