Able Seaman Writer Amanda Appleton
“I went to Koo Wee Rup Secondary College and joined the Navy in 2004 straight after Year 11. My older brother was in the Navy for a few years before I decided to join — he was a big influence!
Amanda has specialized as an administrator and sailed through her training, gaining her Certificate II in Business Management with months to spare. But it has turned out to more than just work.
“Like anything the Navy has its highs and lows, but usually there are more highs. I love it because it’s very social. I have met some of the best mates of my life from being in the Navy. I also love the challenge and variety. I have traveled and seen a lot and the pay is pretty good too.’
During her few years in the Navy, Amanda has already been around Australia and traveled widely round South East Asia. “In fact, I’ve spent so much time traveling, I am looking to a shore posting which will balance it out!”
