Corporal Nicholas Bond

Sandy Bay’s Corporal Nicholas Bond, 23, unpacks mechanical parts at the Australian Battle Group’s store in southern Iraq.

Soldiers like Nicholas in the Battle Group’s technical support troop are working day and night ensuring the Battle Group’s equipment is ready for combat. The troop provides a wide range of services and repairs in areas of electrical , electronics, weapon systems, metal work, and major mechanical repairs and servicing — even woodwork.

As well as supporting Iraqi security forces, the Australian Battle Group is project managing many reconstruction projects. More than 20 Australian projects have been completed, with more under way.  These include water and irrigation projects, rural projects to enhance crop and animal production, health clinics, and power supply initiatives.
