Adam Ireson - Whyalla Digger Trains Reborn Iraqi Army

Whyalla’s Corporal Adam Ireson, 26, mentors an Iraqi Army instructor during a specialist course in southern Iraq.

Adam is now a member of the Australian Army Training Team whose role is to of mentor and train the Iraqi Army in order to facilitate its progress to self-reliance. The team’s primary focus is the Iraqi instructors who can then train their own soldiers to a high standard.

It’s been five years in the making but, within a few weeks, Adam and his fellow Diggers will reach the milestone of 30,000 Iraqi Army soldiers trained by them and earlier rotations of the Australian Army Training Team.

Working with the Iraqi Government, Australian troops continues to contribute to Multi-National Force efforts to develop a secure and stable environment in Iraq, assist national recovery programs and facilitate the transition to Iraq self-government.
