Boman Trezise - Mossman

Mossman local Boman Trezise was not fussed on working in the corporate nine-to-five grind and set his sights on joining the Navy.

He joined the Navy as Maritime Warfare Officer after completing his Business degree at the University of Queensland supported by the Australian Defence Force undergraduate scheme.

“I joined Defence so I could be a part of the culture, and I picked the Navy because I wanted to travel and drive a Warship!” Lieutenant Trezise said.

Currently in the role of Boarding Officer on ANZAC Class frigate HMAS Parramatta, Boman has just completed several weeks on patrol in northern Australian waters as part of the Navy’s contribution to Australia’s Whole of Government maritime border security effort, Operation RESOLUTE.

“In my recent role as Boarding Party Officer, I got to see how different government agencies all chip in to make the operation work,” he said.

As a Boarding Officer he drew on previous experience he gained during his exchange posting with the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), working closely with Fisheries and other government agencies.

“My experience with the RNZN showed me how versatile the Navy can be with my training. I was embarked in an Inshore Patrol Vessel based out of Auckland conducting investigations and boardings on behalf of Fisheries around New Zealand.”

LEUT Trezise spent four months on exchange completing his small boat competency.

“The NZ Navy are professional and hard working and they share this attribute with the Australian Navy, practically the only difference was my uniform.”

Now LEUT Trezise will be driving HMAS Parramatta around South East Asia to conduct several combined maritime exercises and a well deserved break in a few foreign ports.

“When we pull into different ports we meet up with the local Defence force personnel and participate in sports days and official functions.  We also have some personal time, so occasionally we do get that holiday feeling, when we go ashore with our ship mates.”

For now LEUT Trezise is happy to see where the Navy takes him.
