Our People in QLD

Megan Bressow - Beenleigh

Whether a person or piece of equipment needs to be brought in or sent out of Uruzgan province by air, the unit responsible for making this happen is the Movement Control Detachment-Tarin Kot (MC Det-TK).

MC Det-TK is a small unit comprised of four Army members supervised by 35-year-old Platoon Commander Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2) Meagan Bressow of Beenleigh.

“In conjunction with our Air Force air load teams we do dangerous goods checks, confirm the priority of cargo to be sent back to Australia and move units into and out of Tarin Kot,” Megan said.

WO2 Bressow and her team work long and odd hours to synchronise with changing flight schedules.

“We mostly work between eight in the morning and six at night. This can change often, as flights can be cancelled or rescheduled to another time or day. To move people and cargo out of Tarin Kot quickly we also use other Coalition aircraft when they have space available, she said.

“We also handle the bookings for all overseas and return-to-Australia leave for Tarin Kot-based Australian personnel,” Megan added.

WO2 Bressow, who is on her first deployment, said since arriving at Tarin Kot in last July the MC Det-TK had moved an enormous amount of cargo and personnel.

“Up to early January this year we had moved more than 7,845,000lb (3,550,000kg) of cargo, 8755 personnel and 1155 aircraft pallets out of Tarin Kot,” she said.
