Quinton Jacobs - Robina

Robina’s Quinton Jacobs always liked a challenge. Now he’s getting plenty as an airfield defence guard with the Royal Australian Air Force.

Quinton and his comrades in Amberley’s 1st Air Field Defence Squadron are part of the RAAF’s own private army, trained to defend their RAAF base and aircraft from ground-based threats at home and overseas.

But that’s not all. Early last year the Robina State High School graduate took part in Operation Queensland Flood Assist and then travelled to Western Australia to complete his training.

Now promoted to Leading Aircraftman, Quinton first trained as an aircraft technician but switched to airfield defence for the challenge.

“Variety is the best thing,” Quinton said. “There’s a variety of things you can do, and there’s always options to do different things.”
