Stacey Moore - Water and the Weather in Bay Girls FutureRedland Bay local Stacey Moore was amongst a diverse group of 116 Australians who graduated as Officers in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) on Thursday.
The Governor General of Australia Her Excellency Quentin Bryce, AC, reviewed the graduation parade while proud family and friends watched from the stands.
The event marked the end of 22 weeks of initial entry training at the Royal Australian Naval College, HMAS Creswell, during which the graduates were instructed in areas such as leadership, seamanship, naval history, physical fitness and weapons handling.
The new officers will now move on to the next stage of professional training for their specialisations which include Aviation, Training, Engineering, Maritime Warfare, Supply, Medical and Dental.
Midshipman Moore, a former Kimberley College student, says her involvement in Navy Cadets inspired her to make the commitment to serve her country.
“Through my six years in Navy Cadets I was able to experience life at sea on the Young Endeavour, and gained some understanding of what life’s like on-board ships and submarines,’
‘The amazing things I did during that time left me with no doubt that I wanted a career as a Maritime Warfare Officer in the Royal Australian Navy,” she said.
HMAS Creswell’s Commanding Officer, Captain Jaimie Hatcher, says the last six months has taught the new officers to live by the Navy’s core values: Honour, Honesty, Courage, Integrity and Loyalty.
‘They are a richly diverse group, with a single common bond – a collective ambition to serve in the Navy and to serve Australia,’
‘It is a very proud day for them, their families and also the staff of HMAS Creswell. We wish them well in the challenges ahead, as they bid to become the future leaders of the Royal Australian Navy,’ said CAPT Hatcher.
Midshipman Moore, 19, says she is excited by the opportunities now available to her.
“I just love the fact that by the age of 20 I will have the opportunity to drive a Major Fleet Unit,’
‘It’s an exhilarating feeling to have that ahead of me,” she says.
Midshipman Moore will now move to Sydney to begin training as a Maritime Warfare Officer.
She aspires to gain a Science Degree through the Defence Assisted Study Scheme and eventually specialise as a Meteorological Officer.
