Bruce Tarrier - Maroochydore resident competes at international level competition the AASAM

Local resident and Australian Army Reservist, Major Bruce Tarrier has spent 10 days at the Puckapunyal Military Area in Victoria and the Australian Army’s Combined Armed Training Centre (CATC) representing Maroochydore in Defence’s premier international marksmanship competition, AASAM (Australian Army Skills at Arms Meeting).

Annually, CATC hosts AASAM, a Defence wide shooting competition and the most significant regimental engagement activity conducted by the Defence force.

AASAM brings together the best of the best.

44 year old Major Tarrier joined the reserves in 1989 and represents at AASAM Queensland’s 11th Brigade.

“I’ve been to AASAM 8 times. My best achievement was 3rd in the Champion Shot of the Australian Army competition”, said Major Tarrier.

AASAM pitches the best soldiers against each other in a tough combat-like environment. A focus that ensures the contest is more representative of the skills required of a modern fighting soldier.

“AASAM provides for an atmosphere of healthy competition and camaraderie amongst the soldiers”, said Major Tarrier.

AASAM attracts the best international teams, providing for an environment of safety, knowledge and skills based exchange.

This year’s competition includes teams from Australia, Canada, France (FFNC), Indonesia, Timor Leste, Brunei, Netherlands, US Marines, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and a contingent of Japanese observers.
