Lance Corporal Chris Galvin

Townsville’s Lance Corporal Chris Galvin, 30, takes a quick break from installing a new horn on a Army Landrover, in the Royal Australian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RAEME)  workshops, in Dili Timor-Leste.

The Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) are not often in the limelight. However they are every bit as critical to the success of operations as the infantry in the front line.

The workshops in Dili are no exception, where specialists like Chris have a large vehicle fleet to maintain —  everything from Landover’s to Mack trucks. In addition they maintain a wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment. Specialist Armourers maintain all weapons so they remain safe and serviceable.

Operation Astute is the Australian Government's response to a request from the Government of Timor-Leste to assist in restoring peace to their country.

There are approximately 1000 ADF personnel currently serving in Timor-Leste to assist the Government and the United Nations to bring stability, security and confidence to the Timorese to allow them to resolve their differences democratically and peacefully.
