David Nash - Lawnton’s money man in southern Iraq

Lawnton’s Corporal David Nash, 38, (on right in image) is the man in southern Iraq that every soldier is happy to see. He is the man at the base camp who provides fellow Diggers in the Australian Battle Group with cash advances.

But the Australians’ time in southern Iraq is now coming to an end. David and the rest of the Battle Group will be heading home at the end of June, and responsibility for Dhi Qar and Al Muthanna provinces has already been handed over to re-trained Iraqi troops.

As well as supporting Iraqi security forces, the Australian Battle Group has been project managing many reconstruction projects. More than 20 Australian projects have been completed, with more under way.  These include water and irrigation projects, rural projects to enhance crop and animal production, health clinics, and power supply initiatives.

Water purification is particularly important as water-borne diseases are a major killer, especially of young children.
