Ross Bray - Iraq ANZAC day for Yandina Digger

This year Yandina’s Ross Bray, 21, will be celebrating ANZAC Day in southern Iraq. Ross has specialized as a Gunner in the artillery, and he in is now on the job as a radar operator with the Australian Battle Group based at Tallil, in Dhi Qar province.

Ross and his fellow Diggers in the Army surveillance cell operate unmanned aerial vehicles and weapon-locating radar which provide extensive intelligence, surveillance, targeting and reconnaissance information.

The responsibility for security in Dhi Qar and Al Muthanah provinces has already been handed over to Iraqi security units, leaving our Battle Group Diggers with an ‘overwatch’ role before they return to Australia in June.

The Battle Group is also project-managing many reconstruction projects. More than 20 Australian projects have been completed, with more under way.  These include water and irrigation projects, rural projects to enhance crop and animal production, health clinics, and power supply initiatives. Water purification is especially important as water-borne diseases are a major killer, particularly among young children.
